Commitment to education

Ornella Barra has continually invested in the education of the next generation of students.

As Honorary Professor and Honorary Doctor of Science at the University of Nottingham School of Pharmacy, Ornella teaches students on the four-year pharmacy degree course (MPharm). Ornella also advises on the development of the MPharm degree course itself and sits on the External Advisory Board for the University of Nottingham Malaysia campus, where a similar four-year MPharm course has been established.

I constantly think about how to improve myself. We can learn something new every day

She also contributed in creating a five-year degree course in Pharmacy at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the first course taught in English. The course makes use of an exchange of experiences with the faculty of pharmacy at University of Nottingham.

Ornella was also instrumental in the then partnership between Alliance Boots and The University of Manchester to further develop the understanding of skin ageing. In July 2014, a five year partnership was agreed to further investigate the mechanisms by which human skin ages and, in turn, help boost innovation within Boots product brands.

She is also member of the International Advisory Council of Bocconi University in Milan.
